INFORMATION

On February 24, 2021, an aggravated assault occurred within San Lorenzo Park, located at 137 Dakota Avenue in the City of Santa Cruz. Officers responded shortly after 0700 hours and found the victim, who resides within the San Lorenzo Park encampment, suffering from severe head injuries. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and is expected to survive. Through the course of the investigation the crime scene was processed for evidence, detectives conducted follow up on leads, and the suspect was identified as Jose Dante Espinosa. Detectives subsequently obtained a warrant for Espinosa’s arrest for attempted homicide.

On March 9, 2021, SCPD Detectives, Officers assigned to the Neighborhood Policing Teams, and Patrol Officers located and apprehended Espinosa in the area of San Lorenzo Park near Soquel Avenue.

Detectives continue to investigate this case.
