Santa Cruz PD Releases Arrest Stats For July 4 Holiday
The SCPD's special detail teams responded to 418 calls for service between the hours of midnight on July 4 and 3 a.m. July 5.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — Despite a lot of calls for service, the Santa Cruz Police Department reported Friday morning that the July 4 holiday saw no significant incidents. Large crowds were seen at Main Beach and Seabright Beach during the afternoon, but the masses cleared out at dusk, according to the department.
In total, the SCPD's special detail teams responded to 418 calls for service between the hours of midnight on July 4 and 3 a.m. July 5. Out of those 418, 93 were fireworks related.
Stats the department reported for the July 4 period included one felony arrest; three misdemeanor arrests (most were for being drunk in public); 24 infractions (majority of these citations were for open container); eight triple-fine citations (mostly alcohol-related and/or illegal fireworks). The illegal fireworks incidents were in both the Eastside and Westside neighborhoods, according to the SCPD.

The triple-fine citations were part of a crackdown on violations such as illegal fireworks; possession of open containers or consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places; graffiti; noise violations; trespassing; illegal conduct on public property; and urinating/defecating in public.
