Santa Cruz Volunteers Needed To Send Spring And Easter Cards To Isolated Seniors

Community members are invited to brighten the days of isolated residents by sending handmade greetings and activity books.

The I-You Venture and the Family Service Agency are calling for community volunteers to support seniors living in assisted and skilled nursing facilities. The organizations are asking for donations of Spring and Easter cards, as well as Thinking of You cards, to help brighten the days of residents.

According to the program, many seniors in these care facilities experience feelings of loneliness and isolation. Receiving mail serves as a reminder that they are not forgotten by the community.

This volunteer opportunity is open to local groups, schools, and individuals who want to participate in the effort. In addition to greeting cards, the agencies are accepting small items intended to help alleviate stress and boredom.

Suggested donations include crossword puzzles, word search books, adult coloring books, and crayons. These items provide activities for seniors to enjoy during their downtime. Interested participants can drop off their cards and materials at two designated locations in Santa Cruz.

All donations must be delivered by the deadline of March 26.

By participating in this program, volunteers help provide a sense of connection to residents who may otherwise feel isolated from the broader community.

The organizers encourage early participation to ensure all materials are processed and distributed to the facilities in time for the spring season. By taking a small amount of time to write a message or purchase an activity book, community members can make a meaningful impact on the daily lives of local seniors.

This initiative remains a recurring effort to ensure that seniors in Santa Cruz care facilities feel valued and supported by their neighbors.

Donations are accepted at the FSA/I-You Venture office located at 104 Walnut Ave., #208, or at the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center, located at 1740 17th Ave., Attn: FSA. Both locations are open for drop-offs Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

For those seeking more information regarding the project, the I-You Venture can be reached by phone at (831) 459-8917. Questions can also be directed via email to Cleveland.n@fsa-cc.org.
