Police Catch Suspected Burglar Who Tried Fleeing On Bike: SC

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man who Santa Cruz police say is a transient was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of burglary after officers caught up with him on his bicycle.

Jesse Avila, 41, was arrested after police were called to 1230 Mission Street around 2:38 a.m. for a burglary in process, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Avila tried to flee on his bike, but the effort was thwarted by an officer, according to the SCPD.

Avila was found with pliers, pipes, multi-tools, two backpacks and other assorted "burglary tools," police said.

Avila is currently on probation for burglary and not permitted to possess burglary tools, according to the SCPD. He was booked for attempted robbery, probation violation, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, felony warrant and a misdemeanor warrant.
