Semi-Trailers of food sent to flood stricken counties
Peanut Butter, Jam, Rice, Spaghetti, Cheese and Butter sent to local food banks
Due to severe flooding in the Santa Cruz and Monterey areas, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent three semi-trailers of food to the stricken areas in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
On Tuesday, Jan 24th, the Second Harvest Food Bank in Watsonville received two 53 foot semi-trailers with a total of 48 pallets of emergency food shipment from the church's Salt Lake storehouses, with peanut butter, strawberry jam, spaghetti and rice. An additional trailer of dairy products will arrive later. Amazingly, the shipment arrived on National Peanut Butter Day.
Emily Freed, Supply Chain Director of Second Harvest and Brandan Miele, Chief Operating Officer were thrilled at the shipment which will assist those affected by the floods, as well as others with food needs in the county. Local leaders of the church in Santa Cruz, Matt Hackwell (stake president) and Michael Tree (JustServe director) were on hand as the shipments were opened.
