Solar Initiative To Begin In Santa Cruz County
Seven facilities slated to receive the solar arrays.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – Seven Santa Cruz county facilities will have various solar arrays installed on them to reduce carbon emissions and save money, county officials said.
Following Board of Supervisors approval, SunPower Corporation will install the solar arrays, which will reduce carbon emissions by 637 metric tons each year and save the county $10.7 million over 25 years.
County officials said the project will reduce energy use by 48 percent at the seven facilities.

The Simpkins Family Swim Center, one of the facilities, will be 100 percent solar-powered.
County officials said work on six facilities is expected to begin next month and be completed by March.

The six facilities are the swim center, county government building, Santa Cruz County Emeline Campus, Center for Public Safety, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and the Santa Cruz County Public Works Brommer Maintenance Yard.
The seventh facility is the Rountree Medium Facility, which will be outfitted at a later date.
