Soquel Drive Storm Repair Work May Cause Traffic Delays

Starting Oct. 9, Public Works will reduce traffic flow along Soquel Drive at Aptos Street to one lane to facilitate a priority road repair.

From Santa Cruz County: Beginning October 9, the Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works will reduce traffic flow along Soquel Drive at Aptos Street to one lane to facilitate a priority road repair of 2016-17 winter storm damage.

Signalized traffic controls will be in place from Oct. 9 – Dec 15. Motorists are advised to expect delays, and avoid the area if possible. Soquel Drive is one of half-dozen significant repairs identified by the County as it
works to restore local roads following the 2016-17 winter storms. Others include Soquel-San Jose Road, Valencia Road, Bear Creek Road, Glenwood Drive and Swanton Road. The commencement of repairs along Soquel Drive means the County has either completed or commenced work on each of those sites.

The emergency repair work involved reconstructing an embankment and southbound lane above Valencia Creek, and is being performed by Watsonville-based Granite Construction. The approximately $900,000 cost is being funded primarily by Caltrans and Federal Highway Administration emergency funds.
