Tree Work Impacts Murray Street Traffic

From the City of Santa Cruz Public Works: The City of Santa Cruz and Pacific Gas and Electric Company will be removing dead and potentially hazardous pine trees from Murray Street on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The work is scheduled from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. with traffic impacts to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The tree removal will occur at the west end of the Murray Street Bridge with traffic impacted from Seabright Avenue to 7th Avenue. One lane of Murray Street will be closed with a flagger controlling traffic in both directions including bicyclists.

There will be no pedestrian access across the Murray Street Bridge and the stairs at the west bridge abutment will be closed. Pedestrians will be able to access the harbor from the south via Atlantic Avenue or may follow a detour around the top of the harbor through Frederick Street Park.

All travelers should expect delays and plan alternate routes if possible.

The trees being removed include one dead Canary Island Pine and three potentially hazardous Canary Island Pines located near Pacific Gas and Electric high voltage facilities. Tree removal has been approved in accordance with the Coastal Permit for the upcoming Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project.
