Triple Fines For Lawbreakers On New Year's Eve: Santa Cruz
There will be a "Triple Fine" levied for certain Municipal Code violations.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — As in previous years, the Santa Cruz Police Department will be deploying all available officers on New Year’s Eve, and it will be enacting a Safety Enhancement Zone designation in the downtown corridor.
The Safety Enhancement Zone begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday and ends at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Within the Safety Enhancement Zone, there will be “Triple Fines” levied for certain Municipal Code violations such as possession of alcoholic beverages in public and "other unsafe or illegal behavior-related ordinances," the SCPD warned.
As part of the effort, there will be some minor road closures. The following is a map of the Safety Enhancement Zone boundaries and street closures:
