Upcoming Santa Cruz Archaeological Society: Stege Mound

This monthly general meeting will take place the the Cabrillo College, Sesnon House on January 15th at 7:30 pm. The event is free and parking is also free in the visitor’s parking lot.

The Stege Mound is a large prehistoric Ohlone village site located on the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay. The village was occupied between AD 1350-1770, during the time period immediately preceeding Spanish settlement and missionization of the region. Recent archaeological investigations of the shellmound recovered a substantial assemblage of artifacts and documented a complex of prehistoric features.

This presentation will explore aspects of social complexity, subsistence pursuits, and economic diversity represented in the archaeology of the Stege Mound.

Alex DeGeorgey’s professional career spans over 20 years with both public agencies and the private sector engaged in the management of cultural resources. He initiated his career in 1994 when he graduated of the Cabrillo College Archeological Technician Program.

Mr. DeGeorgey is now a co-owner of Alta Archaeological Consulting. He manages archaeological and historical resources projects, including large-scale field studies and assembling field teams. Some of his key responsibilities include serving as Principal Investigator for complex, high profile archaeological investigations, mentoring staff and serving as a technical resource for senior project managers.
