Volunteer In Santa Cruz County: Advocate For A Foster Care Child

The court-appointed volunteers meet with a child each week, learn more about them and advocate in court for their best interest in court.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children of Santa Cruz County are looking for volunteers willing to meet weekly with a foster care child who has been abused or neglected, learn about their case and advocate for their needs before a judge. The advocate, or CASA, must research, review records, and talk to anyone in the kid's life, such as family members, teachers and doctors.

Volunteers are needed for a few hours each month and are assisted by CASA of Santa Cruz County staff, the organization said in a press release. It especially needs volunteers who are bilingual, male or willing to work with kids up to five years old, though people from all backgrounds are encouraged to learn more.

Training is free.
