Water Tour: Great American Secchi Dip In

Participate in this nation-wide event to celebrate Lakes Appreciation Month!

Join the City of Santa Cruz Water Department and the Coastal Watershed Council on the next water tour to Loch Lomond Recreation Area to participate in the Great American Secchi Dip In and celebrate Lakes Appreciation Month! The tour will take place Saturday, July 25th from 10 am to 2 pm.

Across the country, people will be celebrating by measuring the transparency of local lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, rivers and streams. We invite you to be a part of this national event here in Santa Cruz. You’ll hear speakers from the Water Department discuss the City’s water system operations and related natural resource management issues associated with Loch Lomond.

You’ll take a short guided hike through the woods and explore the City’s Newell Creek drinking water source watershed. A longer guided hike will also be available for those who are interested. You’ll learn what a Secchi disk is and how Secchi disks are used as a basic diagnostic tool informing lake management at Loch Lomond as you get a chance to use a Secchi disk, collect important water quality data and be a participant in this great nation-wide event!

Participants will be admitted for free to the Loch Lomond Recreation Area. All participants should bring water and snacks, wear layered clothing and sturdy footwear. The event is limited to 40 participants and RSVP is required by Monday, July 20th at 5pm. Please RSVP by e-mail to geidam@cityofsantacruz.com or by calling 831 335 7424.
