Watsonville Fly-In & Air Show, Capitola Begonia Festival, and the last free Summer concert at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk this Labor Day weekend 2013

What:  49th Annual Watsonville Fly-In & Air Show presents: ‘Plains, Trains and Automobiles,’ a Drive-In movie presentation.

When:  Friday night, movie starts at dusk. Air-Show takes place Saturday and Sunday, 10a.m. – 4p.m.

Where:  Watsonville Municipal Airport

Cost:  Free admission ($1 movie, $1 hotdog, $1 drinks etc.), spaghetti feed $10 per person (and no host bar)

What:  Papa Doo Run Run at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

When:  6:30p.m. & 8:30p.m.

Where:  Beach Bandstand

Why Go:  Don’t miss your last chance to check out the free concerts at the boardwalk this summer.  This former ‘celebrity house band’ that performed at Disneyland also toured and recorded with the Beach Boys from 1975 – 1990.

What:  Scottish Fiddling School 30th Annual Concert

When:  8p.m.

Where:  Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

Why Go:  Indie Award-winning Scots fiddler Alasdair Fraser leads this lively fiddling celebration of the Scotland, Ireland, and Quebec musical culture. Song and dance by more than 150 enthusiastic musicians that spent a week at Camp Campbell in Boulder Creek will perform at the event.

What:  Watsonville Fly-In and Air Show 2013

When: Air Show from 12p.m. to 4p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where:  Watsonville Municipal Airport

Why Go: Spectacular War Birds, thrilling daredevil aerobatic acts, patriotic parachute jump each day, meet and greet with the stunt pilots, Back Yard Blues Band…a tribute concert by Mario Valens (Ritchie Valens brother), and an amazing car show!

Don’t miss Fine Arts and Crafts, and a special appearance and drills by the Civil Air Cadets.

What:  61st Annual Capitola Begonia festival schedule of events for Saturday..

When:  Float construction viewing all day until 10p.m.

Sand Sculpture contest 8a.m. to noon, registration begins on the beach at 8a.m. Trophy judging will be held at noon.

Beach Cowboys, 4p.m. – 6p.m., live at the beach in the Esplanade Park. Bring the family, a picnic dinner, chairs, blankets and your dancing shoes!

Saturday Movie Night at the Beach begins at dusk. 

Where:  Capitola Village

Why Go:  Keep the whole family happy with this full schedule of events. Or, enjoy a day out breathing in the sea air, checking out the float and castle creativity, and the sounds of beat kicking live music.

What:  Evening Campfire Program

When:  6:30p.m.

Where:  Historic campfire center at Big Basin Redwoods State Park

Why Go:  Get down to earth under the towering trees and the sparkling stars.  Whether solo or looking for some family fun, nice pooches and everyone else are welcome to roast marshmallows, sing, and learn about creatures that live in the forest.  Marshmallows and sticks are provided!

                 Sunday………

What:  View the Begonia Festival floats creek side from Shadowbrook's lower patio and greenhouse room while enjoying a barbeque buffet lunch.

When:  11a.m. – 2:30p.m.

Where:  Shawdowbrook Restaurant

Why Go:  Avoid the restaurant rush and enjoy lunch during the event while captivating an amazing view of the floats from the lower patio or greenhouse room as they glide down the Soquel Creek.

What: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County 22nd Annual “Day on the Monterey Bay Regatta”

When: 10a.m. - 5p.m.

Where: Santa Cruz Yacht Club

What:  61st Annual Begonia Festival schedule of events for Sunday…

When: Horseshoes on the Sand at 8a.m.  A “doubles” tournament will be held in front of Zelda's Restaurant. Teams will be chosen by drawing names from a hat.  Participants must pre-register. 

Chalk Art on the Seawall from 9a.m. to noon. Sign in at Esplanade Park. Open to children of all ages.  Create your own masterpiece atop the seawall on the Esplanade for all to enjoy!  Art chalk provided to all participants.

Begonias to Go, Head to Toe! 10a.m.- noon.

Begonia blossoms in the Esplanade Park. Become a part of the Festival!  We provide the begonias - you put them Head to Toe!

61st Annual Nautical Parade 1p.m. - Finish

Begonia covered barges float down Soquel Creek to the lagoon.

Meet the Artist:  2:30p.m - 3:30p.m.  Ben Davis, Jr., this year's poster artist, will be signing posters during the festival at the merchandise booth.

‘Extra Large’ Concert in the Park: 4p.m. – 6p.m.

Where:  Capitola Village

Why Go:  Art, culture, music, and a lot of eye candy!
