Wet Weekend? Santa Cruz County Could See Rain After A Chilly Week

Rain and thunderstorms are possible near the coast Sunday, as a weather system approaches from the Pacific Northwest.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The Santa Cruz County area might see rain on Sunday afternoon and evening, as a weather system heads south from the Pacific Northwest, National Weather Service officials say. Conditions are expected to remain chilly and dry until then, with some parts of the greater Bay Area region bracing for temperatures in the upper 20s and the possibility of freezing fog.

Thunderstorms are possible Sunday, especially near the coast, NWS wrote in a Friday forecast. The center of the weather system is expected to move just off of the coastline and officials believe rain will quickly spread across the Bay Area in a southeastward direction.

Snow could fall on the region's highest mountaintops and ridges, according to NWS.
