2 Santa Monica Burger Joints Named 'Best In LA'

Top chefs picked a dozen restaurants that serve the best burgers in LA – more than one is from Santa Monica.

SANTA MONICA, CA – Since the first In-N-Out Burger opened in Baldwin Park in 1948, hamburgers in Los Angeles have only gotten better, fancier, and more creative. Bloomberg asked chefs and restauranteurs across two continents to name their favorite 12 burger joints around the LA area, and two of the dozen crowned "best burgers in LA" are right here in Santa Monica.

The two best hamburgers in Santa Monica according to top chefs are from these local restaurants:

  • HiHo Cheeseburger
    • Akasha Richmond, chef/owner of Akasha, Los Angeles, suggests ordering the Vegan Burger with French fries and a chocolate shake. What makes the burger special is the bread made in house, butter pickles, and caramelized onion jam, she told Bloomberg. “HiHo is my favorite stop after the Wednesday farmers market,” she said.
    • Address: 1320 2nd St., Santa Monica
    • Website: hiho.la
  • Father’s Office
    • Curtis Stone, chef/owner of Gwen, Los Angeles, suggests ordering the Office Burger with garlic-parsley fries, which comes with caramelized onions, arugula, Maytag blue cheese, and a garlic-butter toasted bun.
    • Address: 1018 Montana Ave., Santa Monica

Other noteworthy hamburger restaurants in LA include Irv's Burgers, The Apple Pan, Kali, and more. To see the entire list of chef recommendations for burgers in Los Angeles, read more at Bloomberg.
