82-Year-Old Pedestrian Critically Injured In Santa Monica Collision

SANTA MONICA, CA — An 82-year-old woman remains hospitalized in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle while walking in a marked crosswalk in downtown Santa Monica Thursday evening, police said.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:47 p.m. at 5th Street and Wilshire Boulevard, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the woman was walking southbound in the marked crosswalk on the east side of the intersection when a vehicle struck her while making a left turn from southbound 5th Street onto eastbound Wilshire Boulevard.

Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded and transported the woman to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition Friday morning, according to SMPD.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, SMPD Lt. Lewis Gilmour told Patch. Police also said DUI was not a factor in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation, and police said additional confirmed information will be released as it becomes available.
