The on-air changes continue at Santa Monica public radio station KCRW.
The station, which last October let go five of its evening and weekend DJs, only to hire three others almost immediately after, announced April 29 that it has hired two new on-air personalities after cutting loose one who had been on the station's airwaves for nearly two decades.
The newcomers are veteran hip-hop producer J.Rocc, founder of LA rap crew the Beat Junkies; and Olive Kimoto, an experienced radio host, DJ and musician who sings in the band Locust.
Both are Los Angeles-area natives. J.Rocc will be on the air from 6-8 pm on Sundays, while Kimoto will be heard from 8-10 pm Monday nights.
At the same time, the station announced that Dan Wilcox, who'd had a weekend show at the station for 19 years, was taken off the air. His show previously aired in the timeslot that J.Rocc is taking over.
"KCRW has always been a place where music evolves -- shaped by the voices who have defined it and the new ones who carry it forward," station music director Alejando Cohen said. "My goal is to keep that experience fresh, meaningful and worthy of your time and support."
It was six months ago that Cohen brought in three new weekend DJs -- John Tejada, LUXXURY and Peanut Butter Wolf -- who have made names for themselves in Southern California and beyond as music artists and producers.
The trio replaced KCRW veterans Jason Kramer, Jeremy Sole, José Galvan, Valida and Travis Holcombe, all of whom had been with the station for at least a decade each.
