Arriving officers found her with "significant injuries," police said.

Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics attempted to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released pending notification of family.

The suspect's arrest was announced at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

"There are no additional suspects being sought at this time," the department said. "The investigation remains active and ongoing."

Lt. Lewis Gilmour confirmed to City News Service a report by KTLA5 that the attack occurred at The Manor, whose website says it has "provided room, board, care and supervision since the 1960s for persons with mental illness, and for those with developmental disabilities."

Citing neighbors, KTLA5 added that the victim was found unresponsive after being attacked in a communal bathroom.

The homicide was the fifth of the year in Santa Monica, one more than in 2025. None of the homicides are related, according to Gilmour.

Anyone with information on the killing was urged to call the SMPD at 310-458-8491.
