Caltrans says nighttime lane closures near Venice are needed for paving, sidewalk improvements and traffic signal upgrades.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Drivers should expect overnight delays on the Lincoln Boulevard section of Pacific Coast Highway Monday through Aug. 14 as Caltrans continues roadway improvements near Venice.

One lane in each direction will be closed Monday through Friday between Santa Monica and Redondo Beach from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews carry out pavement rehabilitation and related construction work.

According to Caltrans, one southbound lane on Lincoln Boulevard will be closed between Venice Boulevard and Machado Drive, while one northbound lane will be closed between Dewey Street and Venice Boulevard.

The work includes pavement rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramp upgrades, trenching, installation of new electrical systems for traffic signals, sidewalk construction, drainage improvements and new lane striping.

Caltrans said nearby residents and businesses may experience noise, vibrations and grinding during overnight construction.

Drivers should expect delays in the area, and detour signs will be posted to help direct traffic around the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible.

The overnight closures are part of Caltrans' broader Pacific Coast Highway rehabilitation project. The multi-year effort includes roadway resurfacing along with upgrades to sidewalks, bicycle facilities, drainage systems and traffic signal infrastructure.

Construction on the overall project is expected to continue through 2029.
