Every time someone frames this as growth versus preservation, they're skipping the actual question, which is what kind of growth and who does it serve.

My answer has stayed the same for years. Responsible development that gives real benefits to the neighborhood it lands in, not a skyline that swallows our city for someone else's profit. I've sat in enough meetings to know the difference between a project that actually gives back to a block and one that just counts on residents being too tired to show up and object. I show up. I read the fine print. I ask who actually benefits before I decide where I stand.

Santa Monica doesn't have to choose between growing and staying itself. I've said that from day one, and I'm not walking it back now. We can add the housing our residents deserve without handing our coastline over to whoever draws the tallest blueprint. That's not idealism; that's just doing the job with our neighborhoods in mind, rather than a developer's spreadsheet.
