Santa Monica Man Gets 27 Months For Doxxing, Harassing ICE Lawyer (patch.com) β A 69-year-old Santa Monica man has been sentenced to just over two years in federal prison for a years-long harassment campaign that included doxxing and encouraging others to swat a federal immigration attorney. Authorities say the conduct stemmed from his connection to a Santa Monica apartment building where the attorney's mother lived, and included threats, pepper spray on a doorknob, and harassing calls and emails.

2. What's Replacing Johnny Rockets On Third Street Promenade? (patch.com) β Santa Monica diners will soon see the old Johnny Rockets on Third Street Promenade transformed into Dragon Alley Kitchen and Burger, an offshoot of local favorite Dragon Alley Coffee on Santa Monica Boulevard. Founded by local accountants, the new spot aims for a Nov. 1 opening with an all-day menu, tavern-style design, and a community-focused atmosphere that builds on their growing presence downtown.

SMC accreditation at risk amid $7.6M structural deficit (smdp.com) β Santa Monica College's accreditation is now officially "at-risk" because of a $7.6 million structural deficit and other unresolved financial problems, putting future funding and students' aid at stake. College leaders cite recent cuts and contract deals, while faculty and trustees warn that state funding formulas, enrollment shifts, and rising labor costs are deepening the crisis and demand clearer fiscal planning.

Waymo hands over documents in NHTSA's child collision probe (techcrunch.com) β Federal regulators are probing a January incident where a Waymo robotaxi hit a 9-year-old at low speed near a Santa Monica school, causing minor injuries. Waymo has now submitted heavily redacted documents to NHTSA, which is examining how the company's vehicles handle school zones and speed limits while a separate NTSB investigation continues.

LA County Expands Psychiatric Hold Authority to Private Hospital ERs (smdp.com) β Emergency room doctors at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica will soon be able to place 72-hour psychiatric holds directly, under a new LA County pilot. The change aims to free up county mobile crisis teams to respond faster in homes and on the streets, with plans to expand training to more private hospitals by 2027.
