Missing Swimmer Found Alive After Overnight Search Off Venice Beach

The man was found on rocks about 20 minutes after witnesses reported seeing him enter the ocean and not return.

VENICE, CA — A man who disappeared into the ocean off Venice Beach early Tuesday was found alive on rocks about 20 minutes later following a search by rescuers.

The search began shortly after 1 a.m. near the 1500 block of Ocean Front Walk, near the Venice Breakwater, after witnesses reported seeing a man enter the water and not return, KTLA reported.

An emergency incident log recorded a rescue response at 1500 Ocean Front Walk at 1:03 a.m.

Firefighters and Los Angeles County lifeguards searched the area before finding the unidentified man on rocks about 20 minutes later, according to KTLA.

Video from the scene showed rescuers helping the man onto a gurney. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the station reported.

Officials did not immediately say why the man entered the ocean.

The location of the rescue is near the Venice Breakwater, a prominent rocky formation extending into the ocean. Los Angeles County records identify the Breakwater lifeguard tower at 1500 Ocean Front Walk.

No additional information about the man's condition or identity was immediately available Tuesday.
