• Viral Video Claims Santa Monica's New Digital Billboards Track Your Phone, Operator Says They Don't (patch.com) — Santa Monica's new Third Street Promenade digital displays are stirring concern after a viral video claimed they secretly connect to pedestrians' smartphones and power targeted ads. The company operating the signs insists the Santa Monica installations neither detect nor track phones, nor use technologies like RADARConnect, and say ads are scheduled in advance. City officials have yet to independently confirm the system's technical capabilities, even as the new Digital Display District reshapes local rules on off-premise advertising.
• Santa Monica Council Takes Up Red-Light Cameras & Housing Rules (smdp.com) — Santa Monica residents could soon see red-light cameras at two intersections, new housing rules near the Expo/Bundy station, and changes to leases for key city properties including Bergamot Station and parts of the Pier. Tonight's City Council agenda also covers moving the Santa Monica Trapeze School to Clover Park, school facilities access, and small funding for a Ballet Folklorico program at Virginia Avenue Park.
• Santa Monica Dems Endorse Goldsmith for State Senate (smdp.com) — Santa Monica's largest Democratic club has thrown its support behind Brian Goldsmith for the open State Senate District 24 seat, saying he understands the community's priorities. Local Democrats highlight issues like cost of living and homelessness, while Goldsmith touts backing from prominent national and regional figures as he heads toward the 2026 race to replace Sen. Ben Allen.
