PALMS, CA — A shooting in Palms where an assault suspect may have shot himself was under investigation Thursday.
Police officers were first called to 3685 Mentone Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
The suspect fled the scene after officers attempted to detain him, the LAPD said.
The suspect arrived at 3760 Vinton Avenue, where he fired multiple gunshots, according to the LAPD.
No police officers fired any shots during the encounter, the LAPD said.
Reports from the scene indicated that the victim suffered a self- inflicted gunshot wound, but City News Service was unable to confirm the cause of the injury.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel administered medical aid to the man before transporting him to the hospital, the LAPD said
Further details on the identity of the victim were not immediately available.
LAPD officers were still investigating at the site of the shooting as of 1:05 a.m.
