Santa Monica is under threat from developers who do not care about our community, only the profits they can rake in by selling out our neighborhoods, and they have a city council that is complicit with them. We have no choice but to fight back or lose our beachside city forever. Santa Monica is not for sale to the highest bidder, and the neighborhoods you live in, the small businesses where you shop, the cafes you break bread at, and the culture you treasure are under attack as well.
It's time to say, "Enough". The number of massive apartment buildings keeps rising, with more unaffordable units for the middle class; traffic calming, new developments with insufficient parking, and cement-barrier bike lanes choking traffic are making our treasured town unbearable.
I think this extreme density without proper infrastructure is entirely irresponsible. The next major battle will happen everywhere. Downtown with high-rises and ugly, digital Vegas-style signage, the Gandara Park neighborhood, which will lose its quaint single story housing stock for generations of people of color, east Ocean Park Blvd with a school and mid-rise offices and apartments, and I'm just beginning. Soon, no neighborhood will be untouched. Even the sacred Coral Trees on San Vicente Blvd are being starved to death. We must restrict further growth to protect our local streets. This city council isn't looking out for our residents; they're looking for their next big payday. It's time to fight back before we look like a hollowed-out Downtown Los Angeles.
I'll fight for residents, locally, and at the state level for our character, our heritage, and our future. It is time to stop rolling over. It is time to Brock The Vote!
