How do we actually know if our city is functioning properly? 🤔 Right now, Sacramento only measures our success by counting how many housing permits we issue each year. That completely ignores our residents' daily reality. I propose changing exactly how we measure success in Santa Monica.
We need to track what you actually experience day to day. We should measure whether a family can still find parking close to home. We need to know if our police and paramedic response times are holding steady as our population grows. We must track whether our local tree canopy and open spaces are increasing or disappearing.
Sacramento keeps assigning us massive housing quotas without asking whether we have the water supply, park space, or emergency response capacity to support them. We have to change the order of operations immediately. Development must follow infrastructure. If a new project requires upgraded water systems or better transit, we must fully fund those improvements before anyone breaks ground.
True success means ensuring future generations inherit a highly functional and livable city. Our growth must match our infrastructure timeline.
