Annual Homeless Tally Announced At Council Meeting Tonight
Santa Monica City Council will be able to review the numbers as well as the City's approach to helping homeless individuals.

SANTA MONICA, CA – City Manager Rick Cole will reveal the numbers from this year's January homeless tally during the first City Council meeting in March Tuesday. The Council will be able to review the numbers as well as the City's approach to helping homeless individuals by connecting them to local services, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported. The outreach teams already in action involves a specialized police unit and multi-disciplinary team that includes a social worker.
In addition, Santa Monica's new Homeless Steering Committee (SMHSC) will meet for the first time Wednesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. at Roosevelt Elementary Auditorium at 801 Montana Avenue. The SMHSC is a public/private partnership to brainstorm new ways to tackle homelessness, according to the newspaper. More than 50 partners from local businesses, churches, service providers, and elected officials will meet to develop strategies to address the homeless crisis.
The group will focus on housing, mental health, and employment opportunities for the homeless, as well as public safety, preservation of public and open spaces, and volunteer opportunities, the newspaper reported.
