Armed Man Barricaded In Maserati Dealership Arrested

SWAT officers and a dog chased after the suspect in Santa Monica before he was caught and arrested, according to video from the scene.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man armed with an airsoft rifle who barricaded himself inside a Maserati dealership Friday morning in Santa Monica was taken into custody with the help of a police dog.

The suspect ran from the building near 18th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard about 5:40 a.m. and was taken into custody, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

When officers arrived, they heard yelling and screaming coming from the alley, SMPD said. As they made their way down the alley, a light was shone in their direction, and they were able to see a man who was armed with a rifle, SMPD Lt. Candice Cobarrubias said. The weapon was later determined to be an airsoft rifle.

Video from the scene showed SWAT officers and a dog chasing after the suspect and the dog catching the suspect at the end of an alley. He quickly surrendered.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained by the police dog, SMPD said.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. and the suspect was inside a vehicle in the Maserati dealership showroom, ABC7 reported.

Police asked residents to continue to avoid the area and shelter in place.
