Boys, 11 And 13, Arrested For Carjacking, Burglary During Santa Monica Crime Spree: Police

The pair were arrested several times in recent weeks during a crime spree in Santa Monica, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — An 11-year-old and a 13-year-old have been returned to a residential care facility after a crime spree that included carjacking and burglarizing a vehicle, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Officers arrested the 11-year-old boy on Oct 2. on a charge of attempted robbery with a knife near Santa Monica Beach. Police say the boy approached a man's pickup truck while the man was sitting inside in an attempt to steal a bike from the truck bed.

The boy who was holding a knife, threatened to cut the man when he realized the man was inside. The boy, accompanied by the 13-year-old, fled the area and were located by police shortly after, SMPD said.

The boys had run away from a residential care facility in San Dimas. The 11-year-old was cited for attempted armed robbery. The 13-year-old was cited for obstructing an investigation.

Police said the boys had previously been arrested twice in September, on charges of carjacking and burglarizing a vehicle.
