“LEAVING” – A One-Woman Show Written & Performed by BARBARA WILLIAMS

On Friday, November 20 Canadian singer-songwriter / actress, Barbara Williams presents her one-woman stage musical, LEAVING at the Santa Monica Playhouse. Based on her critically acclaimed 2016 memoir, “The Hope in Leaving,” this personal & incredibly intimate experience is a testimony to one woman’s resilience and ability to love in the face of unimaginable hardship. The show weaves together personal monologues, spoken-word storytelling, and original or folk-based songs reflecting her background as a long-time folk guitarist & singer. The story chronicles her turbulent upbringing in British Columbia’s logging camps & small towns, following her dreamer/logger father ("Handsome Jack"), her mother & siblings across 27 different homes, addressing poverty, family struggles, and survival, while highlighting how nature & art served as her ultimate lifelines.Musical accompaniment by Liam Hayden on bass, David Robinson on piano & Lauri Reimer on percussion.
