Chipotle Changing Menu Amid Beef Over Bacon
A series of critical Tweets convinces the restaurant to clarify its menu.

A beef over bacon has led —which has a popular location on the in Santa Monica—to change its menu.
Seth Porges, who is a fan of the Mexican restaurant chain and also the senior editor of Maxim magazine, Tweeted and e-mailed top executives at the company after discovering that there is bacon in the beans served at Chipotle. Porges does not eat pork.
Shortly after sending the messages, Porges received a personal phone call from Chipotle CEO Steve Ells, according to Consumerist magazine. Ells reportedly apologized and announced to Porges that the chain will be changing its in-store menus so that consumers are aware that Chipotle's pinto beans are cooked with a small amount of bacon.

For customers who also order meat products, Chipotle's general policy is not to inform them that the pinto beans are made with bacon, according to Consumerist. Chipotle's Web site, however, clearly states under the Vegan Options section of its Special Diet Information tab: "You should avoid our pinto beans (they are cooked with a small amount of bacon)."
In his initial Tweets, Porges wrote: "After more than a decade of ordering Chipotle pinto beans, I was told they have bacon. As non-pork eater, I feel ill." He included @ChipotleMedia on the message.

"Was shocked to discover Chipotle puts bacon in their pinto beans," he subsequently wrote. "Why is it not posted on menu?"
Later that day, however, Porges Tweeted: "Said I got them to change menus to say Pinto has bacon! Awesome & nimble response! Thanks."
Chipotle Communications Director Chris Arnold told Consumerist: "The menu panels have been redesigned to reflect that change, and the plan is to deliver them to restaurants along with other changes to the menu boards over the next several months."
Porges told the magazine that he will "look forward" to eating at Chipotle in the future.
