Donald Sterling Settles with Manager of His Santa Monica Apartment Building Over Wrongful Termination Suit

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The 80-year-old manager said Beverly Hills Properties fired her because of her age.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Donald Sterling and a former manager of a Santa Monica apartment building owned by the billionaire have settled her lawsuit alleging she was owed back wages and overtime pay, and that she was fired because she was 80 years old.

Lawyers for Sterling and Beverly Hills Properties filed court papers on Monday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis stating that the lawsuit filed in September 2015 by Mary Ariola was resolved. No terms were divulged.

Ariola was a resident manager of Sterling's Santa Monica Edgewater apartments. She alleged she was paid less than the minimum wage for all hours worked; that she was not compensated for periodic overtime; and that Sterling intentionally did not maintain accurate and complete wage statements for her.

The former Los Angeles Clippers owner also did not immediately pay Ariola all the money she was owed when she was fired in June 2015, just weeks before her 81st birthday, the plaintiff alleged.

Ariola says she was told she lost her job because she took an additional day off for the Memorial Day weekend, but alleges her age was the actual reason she was terminated.
