Shredding is a reliable way of safely and properly disposing of documents containing personal information that, if discarded improperly, could open the door to identity theft. The City has arranged to provide secure shredding services free of charge (up to 25 file boxes per vehicle, 12”x17”x9”) and all shredded materials will be recycled.
Documents will be commercially shredded by trained, licensed and bonded document destruction specialists. When they are destroyed, they are recycled into new paper products. That means:
- A reduced need for landfill space
- A reduced need for new lumber
- Less energy and water is needed to process new lumber
In addition, as technology evolves, hundreds of thousands of computers, copiers, fax machines, TVs and other electronics become "obsolete" every year and generate E-waste. Most devices contain a variety of materials that can be recovered and reused but contain certain materials rendering them hazardous and unacceptable for municipal trash disposal. The City will accept E-waste and ensure proper recycling.
So, do you have sensitive documents that you’re nervous about tossing in the recycling? Tired of old electronics cluttering the garage?
Come to the City Yards on Saturday, June 23rd, and we can take it off your hands for free!
