The City of Santa Monica’s Resource Recovery & Recycling Division can help you safely dispose of your unwanted records and documents at a FREE Shredding Day on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. The event is open to Santa Monica residents and will be held at the City Yards, 2500 Michigan Ave., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
Many residents hold onto paperwork they no longer need because they don’t want to throw it in with the regular trash, or more appropriately, the regular recycling. This event provides a chance to clear out those drawers and cabinets at home so you can de-clutter, protect yourself and protect the environment at the same time. Shredding is a reliable way of safely and properly disposing of documents containing personally identifying information that, if discarded improperly, could open the door to identity theft. The City has arranged for secure shredding services free of charge and all shredded materials will be recycled. Residents are limited to 25 file boxes (12” x 17” x 9”).
Documents brought to the event will be commercially shredded - - safely and properly - - by the trained, licensed and bonded document destruction specialists. When confidential documents are destroyed, they are recycled into new paper products. That means:
