Police responded at around 12:30 a.m. to a report of a possible shooting in Parking Lot 1 North, at 1550 Pacific Coast Highway. Responding officers found an adult suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Investigators believe a physical altercation occurred between two groups before the shooting. Police have not disclosed what prompted the confrontation. The victim's identity was being withheld pending notification of family members. No arrests had been made as of late Monday morning, and police had not released descriptions of the suspect or suspects.The shooting came hours after thousands had flocked to downtown Santa Monica for a World Cup watch party. Several parts of the area were designated as car-free zones for the event.Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information was asked to call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8491.
