A homeless man was booked on suspicion of robbery, possession of methamphetamine and delaying arrest by SMPD.
SANTA MONICA, CA — A homeless man was booked on suspicion of robbery, possession of methamphetamine and delaying arrest by Santa Monica Police after the man robbed a boutique at gunpoint and fled, according to authorities.
On Dec. 3 an employee of Adult Love Boutique at 1319 Santa Monica Blvd. reported an armed robbery to SMPD, saying the suspect, Kelly Carr, had a handgun and took money before he fled the scene.
"Officers arrived in less than two minutes and noticed a male changing his clothing near the crime scene and attempted to detain him," SMPD said in a statement. "The male, later identified as Kelly B. Carr, disobeyed the officers’ commands, and fled on his bicycle."

While running, officers said they found a backpack believed to be Carr's and a replica handgun that were dropped. Carr was detained at a BMW dealership less than a mile away and officers said they found the stolen cash and a plastic bag that appeared to have meth inside on Carr's person.
Police said Carr admitted to the crime after he was detained and was also identified by the boutique employee and a witness.

On Dec. 6 the Los Angeles District Attorney's office filed two counts of robbery against Carr.
Officers said they linked Carr to a similar incident that occurred on Oct. 16 where another boutique was robbed at gunpoint before the suspect fled on a bicycle before SMPD arrived.
SMPD detectives said it could be possible that Carr was responsible for other robberies in the area. Anyone who may have additional information is urged to contact Detective I. Tavera at 310-458-2201 ext. 2256 or the Watch Commander at 310-458-8426.
