Jewish Couple Attacked By Man Yelling Profanity, Waving Baseball Bat: Video

One of the victims was bitten by the man's dog, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man faces charges after he attacked two people over the weekend in downtown Santa Monica, shouting profanity, menacing them with a baseball bat and chasing them with his dog, who bit one of the victims in the leg, according to police and video of the incident.

Tar Nay was booked at the Santa Monica jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, police said. The couple believes he targeted them because they are Jewish and they are in contact with the Anti-Defamation League, according to KTLA.

“Witnesses reported that the suspect used threatening and offensive language during the incident,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in a social media post on Wednesday.

“Detectives are reviewing those statements, along with video evidence, to determine whether the facts support any additional charges or sentencing enhancements.”

Nay’s arrest came after officers responded around 5:20 p.m. Sunday to Third Street and Broadway for a reported assault, according to police, who detained Nay on nearby Fourth Street.

Video of the incident shared on social media by a friend of one of the victims shows a man in a car, yelling and banging a baseball bat against the vehicle through an open window, with a dog in the back seat barking.

Stopping in traffic, he gets out of the vehicle, and, shouting profanely about genocide, he runs up to the person filming, then returns to the car, the video shows, before he exits again, with the dog following, and charges at the victims, causing them to flee as he chases them. The man eventually returns to his vehicle and drives away, according to the footage.

The dog, a Cane Corso, bit one of the victims on the thigh, according to police. The victim was treated at the scene for a minor injury related to the dog bite, police said, and the animal was taken into custody and brought to a local shelter.
