Lebron was not enough for LCA
Lighthouse Christian Academy suffers two successive losses in soccer. Its leading goal scorer, who carries the team, could not muster enough

He’s like Lebron.
Hosea Ashcraft, a junior at Lighthouse Christian Academy, scored one goal against Newbury Park Adventist Academy last week and two goals Tuesday against Westmark in losses for Saints soccer.

“Hosea’s the peanut butter,” quipped sophomore Ethan Zerihun. “The rest of the team is the sandwich.”
Hosea was the only goal scorer in losses to league leaders Newbury on Thursday. The lone goal scorer story repeated itself against playoff contenders Westmark Academy in Encino.

Against Newbury, LCA lacked confidence; against Westmark, the Saints were overconfident. Either way, the team underperformed.
“We weren’t dedicated enough going to practice,” Hosea said. “It showed in the game. I was motivated because I wanted to win. Some kids just don’t care enough to win.”
Against Newbury, Hosea single-handedly out-dribbled three defenders and shot on left post in the first half to tie 1-1. For the rest of the game, nobody for LCA scored, showing a lack of fitness. Newbury punished LCA driving three more goals in the second half.
Against Westmark, the Saints thought they would repeat their first win vs. the Lions, in which LCA snuffed them 4-0. LCA players were being lazy and selfish and thus suffered in the re-match.
Lackluster Lighthouse took three goals in the first half. In the second half, Hosea came alive, combining with Marcus Scribner and Josie Bowen, to capitalize on passes and score two. It was not enough to even tie.
Just like Lebron James carries the Lakers, Hosea carried Lighthouse. LCA’s last season game is Wednesday against Gorman Learning Center. Hopefully, the rest of the team will be the winning supporting cast.
