Man Charged With Murdering Mother, Stabbing Father

SANTA MONICA, CA – A man was charged Monday with murder and attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old mother to death in Santa Monica and trying to kill his father.

Stephen Lloyd Fader, who also faces sentence-enhancing allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and personal use of a knife as a deadly weapon, remains in custody in lieu of $3 million bail pending arraignment Feb. 19 at the Airport Branch Courthouse.

On Jan. 24, Santa Monica police officers responded to a report of a man in need of help in the 1200 block of Sunset Avenue and found two men and a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Sharon Fader died at the scene, and Howard Fader was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The victims' 42-year-old son was also hospitalized with stab wounds to his stomach. He remained in the hospital for a week under police supervision and was booked on suspicion of murder when he was discharged a week later, according to Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez.
