Miss Santa Monica is Named Miss California USA 2017

India Williams a 20-year-old contestant representing Santa Monica was crowned Miss California USA® 2017. Jaanu Patel a 16-year-old contestant from Huntington Beach was crowned Miss California Teen USA® 2017. The pageant was held at the Long Beach Convention Center on Sunday, December 4, 2016. The winners will move on to compete at the Miss USA and Miss USA Teen competitions, respectively.

Williams, a junior on the Dean’s List at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, is working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Entrepreneurship and wants to purse a law degree in entertainment contracts. She is currently learning to speak Mandarin Chinese and volunteers with The Incubator School, a nonprofit dedicated to providing clean, safe drinking water to communities in Kenya. She is a part-time model and was Cycle 22 cast member on America’s Next Top Model television series.

Patel is a high school junior at Huntington Beach High School with career ambitions to become a Pediatrician. She likes to dance, Bollywood and classical; play volleyball; train cross fit and volunteer. Patel has won first place in three Bollywood dance competitions. She has received seven Model United Nations awards, including three first place finishes, and traveled to Montreal, Canada for the 2016 International Model United Nations Conference. She volunteers as an intern with Kaiser Permanente’s maternity ward. She is a first-time competitor for Miss California Teen USA®.
