New Roads' In the Heights Wins in the Los Angeles High School Version of the Tony Awards!
Santa Monica's New Roads School Wins Prestigious Musical Theater Awards

New Roads School's extraordinary production of Lin Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights has been recognized as one of the best secondary school musical theater productions in Los Angeles, taking home two Jerry Herman Awards for Excellence in Musical Theater, Best Staging and Choreography (to faculty members Kristi Schultz and Brian Frette) and the “No Small Parts” Award to Caleb McGee (Piragua Guy), after having secured nominations in five categories.
The Jerry Herman Awards celebrate achievement and excellence in high school musical theater. The awards ceremony, held at the Hollywood Pantages Theater on June 5, was the culmination of a process in which Jerry Herman Award adjudicators viewed and critiqued thirty-seven Los Angeles high school productions, scoring each show in multiple creative, technical and performance categories, much like Broadway’s Tony Awards.
