Nick Carter Under Investigation For Sexual Misconduct

Santa Monica police are investigating a 2003 incident involving the former Backstreet Boys singer.

SANTA MONICA, CA – Santa Monica police are investigating Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter for alleged sexual misconduct, USA Today reports. The investigation had "just begun" Thursday, Santa Monica Police Department's Public Information Officer Lt. Saul Rodriguez confirmed.

Rodriguez said the victim's information is confidential, so he's unable to identify the person who filed the police report against the singer.

"A victim did come forward yesterday to report allegations of sexual misconduct involving Mr. Carter that occurred in 2003," Rodriguez told USA Today. "We're going to start looking into the matter."

Actress and singer Melissa Schuman, 33, accused Carter, 38, of rape in November and recently tweeted about filing a police report Wednesday. "I’m finally doing what I thought I could no longer do. Im filing a police report," she wrote. She credited the Rape Abuse Incest National Network for "empowering me to take this step."

Schuman made her allegations against the Backstreet Boys singer public in a blog post titled "Don't worry, I won't tell anybody," according to KHOU11. She alleges the incident happened shortly after the two were cast in the 2004 TV movie The Hollow. At the time of the incident she was 18, Carter was 22, KHOU11 reports.
