Ocean Water Warning Issued For Area Around Santa Monica Pier

LA County's Department of Public Health is advising the public to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in waters around Santa Monica Pier.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The weather may be hot, but diving into the water in and around the Santa Monica Pier probably isn't a good idea right now.

That's because LA County's Department of Public Health is advising the public to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in ocean waters 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.

The warning has been issued, the Health Department said, because recent water samples showed bacterial levels exceeding health standards, which may increase the risk of illness.
