Ocean Water Warning Issued For Santa Monica Pier Due To High Bacteria Levels
The LA County Department of Public Health is advising the public to avoid the waters around the Santa Monica Pier due to elevated bacteria.
SANTA MONICA, CA — The LA County Department of Public Health is advising the public to avoid ocean waters near the Santa Monica Pier due to bacteria levels that exceed state health standards.
In addition, a handful of South Bay waters were also declared dangerous to enter.
On March 24, a warning was issued for the following beaches:

- Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica: 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.
- Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu: 100 yards up and down the coast from the lagoon.
- Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach: 100 yards up and down the coast from public restrooms.
- Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach: 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek.
- Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro: Entire swim area.
"Recent water samples showed bacterial levels exceeding health standards, which may increase the risk of illness," LA County Health said in a statement.
