SANTA MONICA, CA — A man drowning at the end of the Santa Monica Pier was rescued by two Santa Monica Police Department Harbor officers.

Late at night on March 27, officers Kat Ahlers and Henry Reyes watched a man sprint to the end of the pier, climb over the railing and hang over the water with just his hands, the department said on Twitter.

"Reyes grabbed onto him to keep the man from falling. Just as Ahlers suited up in her wetsuit, Reyes lost his grip," SMPD said.
