SANTA MONICA, CA — This year's Santa Monica College Emeritus Annual Student Art Exhibition will feature more than 80 works created by 37 student artists over two parts, with the first part starting next week.
Part one of this year's exhibit will be an online-only experience, available 24 hours a day following the April 20 launch date at 5 p.m. A virtual launch event for the exhibition will be held over Zoom from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on opening day.
“I am absolutely blown away by the talent and creativity on display in this year's Emeritus student exhibition," said Iterim Emeritus Associate Dean Guadalupe Salgado. "From the stunning technical skill on display to the powerful emotional resonance of the works, each artist has truly outdone themselves. This is a testament to the incredible dedication and passion of the Emeritus students, and I feel honored to be able to witness their amazing work.”

The online format of the first part of the exhibit allows for different media approaches that would be difficult to showcase otherwise, according to Emeritus Gallery Curator Jesse Benson. Benson will highlight and discuss a selection of individual artworks at the launch event.
Several of the exhibiting artists will also hold brief discussions about their work during the opening reception, officials said.
