Crash Escalates Into Shooting In Downtown Santa Monica

One person was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another was taken into police custody, according to authorities.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A person was taken to the hospital after a shooting in Downtown Santa Monica on Tuesday, according to Santa Monica police.

The shooting occurred near 6th Street and Broadway at approximately 3:42 p.m., SMPD said.

Witnesses told police that the shooting happened after an SUV and another vehicle crashed into each other. The driver of the SUV got out of the vehicle and shot at the other car, the witness said.

No information about the motive for the shooting was available, but SMPD said the two people knew each other.

Police took the suspect into custody and a gun was recovered, SMPD said.

Officers advised members of the community to avoid the area of Broadway between the 500 and 700 blocks while further investigation of the incident takes place.
