Police Activity Near Santa Monica Pier Snarls Traffic

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, police and fire personnel attempted to contact a "distraught individual" in the area.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Police activity near the Santa Monica Pier shut down traffic the area Wednesday morning.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, police and fire personnel were on the scene at Ocean Boulevard and the California Avenue Incline attempting to contact a "distraught individual."

Streets were reopened just after 1 p.m. and the person was taken to a local hospital for evaluation according to SMPD. No further information about the incident was immediately available.
