Unstable Man In Tree Shuts Down Fifth Street In Santa Monica

The man was taken into custody and authorities were working on reopening the street.

SANTA MONICA, CA – An unstable man who climbed a large tree in Santa Monica Wednesday morning was taken into custody, police said. As a result of the incident, the 1500 block of Fifth Street was shut down in both directions between Broadway and Colorado Avenue.

Police and fire personnel along with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health were on scene working to remedy the situation, police said. Authorities were working on clearing the area and reopening the street.
