Stolen Vehicle Driver Leads CHP On Chase From OC To Santa Monica

Police were searching for a suspected car thief in Santa Monica Thursday.

SANTA MONICA, CA —A suspect in a stolen car was taken into custody Thursday after leading officers on a freeway and surface street chase from Santa Ana to Santa Monica.

The pursuit started near Dyer Road and the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Santa Ana about 12:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Amid the chase, a woman passenger got out of the car with her hands up and was taken into custody in the vicinity of Pacific Coast Highway and Chautauqua Boulevard.

The male driver continued driving at high speeds into a residential area before ditching the car in a parking structure near the 1100 block of 12th Street, near Wilshire Boulevard, about 1:30 p.m., according to a CHP official and the Santa Monica Police Department's watch commander.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was found walking around the area and was taken into custody.
